Catherine R Bell was sitting in a dimly lit café in New York City, the type of place where the air echoes with ideas, possibilities, and realizations. Suddenly, she felt a lightning bolt of inspiration strike the top of her head. The message was clear: “You are to write a book called ‘The Awakened Company’.”
Catherine turned to her then-colleague, Carolyn Duckworth, at BluEra, the executive search firm she co-founded, and said, “Carolyn, I am to write a book called ‘The Awakened Company’.” Carolyn responded with a large glowing grin, “Oh yes, you are.”
Initially, Catherine started writing a book on recruiting, but after receiving feedback that it was simple, she had an epiphany. BluEra was a living example of how to create a healthy organizational culture and strategy. The book evolved into a guide on “the why” for building conscious organizations, and how they can have a big impact on people’s lives, both personally and financially.
Catherine made a lot of mistakes and got a lot of things right with her partners and the team. She then completed “The Awakened Company” and realized her purpose was to help people transform workplaces into forces for good by integrating business research, wisdom traditions, and practical know-how. She believes that only by organizing consciously can we tackle the world’s greatest challenges.
This is the birth story of The Awakened Company, and our journey continues to evolve and emerge daily. We have now worked in over 23 countries, with small organizations to some of the largest, and have more books on the way!

Catherine R Bell loves to help leaders, relationships, teams, and organizations thrive! She is the CEO and Founder of the Awakened Company. Catherine helps organizations create healthy corporate cultures through executive coaching, team strategy sessions, team facilitation, speaking, and online webinars. She is an award-winning Profit 500 Founder, serial entrepreneur, and best-selling author. Catherine has an MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, a sociology degree from Western University, is certified in the Enneagram, and is a yoga instructor. She was a Jarislowsky Co-Fellow at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. She teaches at Smith (Queen’s School of Business). Catherine has recently co-founded a mindfulness app, Awakenly, which uses the Enneagram to ground people into presence and transform their realities.
Catherine has been taught leadership by one of the top five leadership researchers in the world, Dr. Julian Barling. In addition, there is currently business research being done on The Awakened Company team process.
Catherine founded The Awakened Project to help women get out of poverty, is an Advisor to Telus Spark Science Centre, an Advisor to Impact Society, and is on the Board of Tara Mandala.
Catherine also has two programs with Russ Hudson coming out from SoundsTrue – a Relationships and the Enneagram program in December and a program on Creativity and Enneagram in the Spring. She has a book from Penguin/Random House/Hayhouse coming out in 2025 on the Enneagram and Creativity.
Bliss Aime is an accomplished Leadership, Executive and Team Coach. He brings ten years’ experience with high performing team development and Executive leadership coaching to build evolved and awakened leaders and teams. His clear and direct approach combined with extensive business and leadership experience in one of Canada’s largest organizations gives him the skill and background to quickly support leaders in developing. Bliss works with leaders and teams to produce great business results, challenging them to deliver on two critical elements of leadership success: developing engaged, committed people and creating an organizational environment in which they can excel.
Paul Zelizer, MA, graduated in 1991 from an innovative Counseling Psychology program at Lesley University. It included a concentration on awareness based change strategies long before mindfulness was a buzzword and launched a daily meditation practice that Paul continues to cherish. Since then, he has led programs for over 30,000 leaders and their team members in a variety of settings. He launched his coaching business in 2008, becoming a global pioneer in supporting social entrepreneurs as well as one of New Mexico’s premier business coaches.
Fun fact: Paul actually coached Catherine while she was birthing The Awakened Company.
Sherilyn Sandford has been a cornerstone of The Awakened Company for over two years, primarily excelling in her roles as a Virtual Executive Assistant and Operations Lead. In this capacity, she is instrumental in orchestrating the company’s administrative framework, ensuring impeccable organization and planning. Sherilyn’s adept management of schedules, meticulous preparation of documentation, webinar organization and facilitation, and efficient handling of email correspondence underscore her commitment to supporting the team’s effectiveness and the smooth operation of company activities.
Alongside her administrative expertise, Sherilyn also contributes to the company’s digital footprint by managing social media and marketing materials. Her ability to succinctly align these efforts with the broader goals of The Awakened Company demonstrates her versatility and understanding of the organization’s mission.
