Peter McCoppin had a 30-year career as an orchestral conductor on four continents. He developed effective communication skills as a host/broadcaster for national television and radio in Canada and as a key-note speaker represented by three national agencies.
Throughout his conducting career, Peter demonstrated his creative skills for business and marketing. He played a key role in leading the Vancouver Symphony out of bankruptcy and in rebuilding public and corporate confidence for that organization in 1988. During the ten years that he was Music Director of the Victoria Symphony, he created the Symphony Splash, the largest Symphonic Event in North America, playing to audiences annually of 50,000 in the inner harbor of that city. The orchestra under his leadership was debt-free, profit-sharing with its musicians, and played to the largest per capita audience in Canada – a record unequalled anywhere.
Peter began his coaching career in 1997 while he was Music Director of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in North Carolina. A senior executive of the Duke Energy Corporation made a request to him for coaching in public speaking – an essential skill for career advancement of that individual. The success of that engagement was such that Peter was asked to provide similar training to several people at the Vice President level within that company the following year.
Coaching became his primary practice in 2001. He focuses on: leadership,
team-building, and presentation skills both in individual and group settings. A voracious reader and a life-long student, he continues to draw on an ever-widening resource in his practice. To date, more than 1,000 people have taken his leadership course. He has coached over 100 teams, facilitating a process by which team-members on a level playing field have defined their culture in a written and living charter. ‘People support what they create’. Invariably that process has delivered immediate, measurable and lasting results.
Peter is committed to a spiritual practice – mindfulness, yoga, and self-development are primary to his being. His mantra is: Embrace gratitude; love unconditionally; encourage enthusiastically; listen patiently; serve truthfully; celebrate fabulously; live fully!
