The Awakened Project is a philanthropic organization designed to help fund females to start and grow their businesses with financing options including grants for small business funding and micro loans. Working with MOMENTUM, they provide programs that offer entrepreneurial advice, guidance and training to help women in our community form a solid foundation for their future success.
Our goal is to help provide you with the tools you need to grow your business.
In Canada, about 4 in 10 entrepreneurs are women, yet they represent over half of the working population.

Women lack access to grant funding opportunities to grow their businesses and startups. The World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) estimates that as many as 70% of women-owned small-and-medium enterprises in developing countries are unserved or underserved by financial institutions – resulting in a credit gap of around $285 billion.
This needs to end!
By partnering with MOMENTUM, we ensure that women looking to start a business are provided with guidance and business development coaching that goes hand in hand with funding and grant programs.
It is a huge disadvantage to our society to have a lack in funding amounts for women.
We want to help women be financially independent.
As a successful female entrepreneur, she saw the need to create a sustainable fund to help women entrepreneurs get funding. She also wanted to create a physical reminder of the power of your presence: in your life, relationships, teams, organizations and communities.
Being present results in better people, relationships, organizations, communities and the planet.
We have partnered with Momentum to manage our fund. The Awakened Project fund goes towards the Momentum Micro Business Loans program, specifically designated for women within the loans portfolio. To date, we have raised over $60,000++ for our Awakened Project Fund. There have been a number of offshoot initiatives as a result of the Awakened Project as well.
Momentum provides grants directly to graduates of the Self Employment Program with a business plan.
Partnering with Canadian-artist Sarah Bowker, Catherine curated The Awakened Project Collection. Unique gemstone jewelry for both women and men, 50% of The Awakened Company profits from the sale of the Collection go towards a fund to help women entrepreneurs launch their businesses.
Sarah chose the name SHAKTI for her brand because of what it represents. LIBERATION. Shakti is the creative energy that inspires you to seek growth, change and to live a life or purpose and fulfillment. She has a hunger to create, to serve, to make a difference. Her biggest hope is that she can harness this love for stones, the wisdom traditions, and transformation and share a little wisdom with you all.
Sarah’s deepest desire is that you are living a life of purpose and freedom. Hoping to inspire you to listen to that small or big voice that clearly knows your path; The voice that empowers you on your path to be the best version of yourself.

The Awakened Project held a memorable charity event on October 19th, 2024, celebrating women in leadership at SophieGraceShop in Calgary, Alberta.
“Layers of Leadership” combined a leadership bootcamp with a feminist confession booth, inspiring attendees to lead authentically. The event successfully made a positive impact by donating all profits to Momentum.
The event featured a panel of accomplished leaders and trailblazers, including Catherine R Bell, an award-winning author and founder of The Awakened Company; Karen Radford, former executive at TELUS and Enbridge and founder of YOSSA; Emma May, corporate lawyer, real estate broker, and founder of sophieGrace.ca; and Heather Campbell, an energy sector veteran with a strong commitment to community service.
In addition to the discussions, attendees enjoyed an exclusive shopping experience, purchasing elevated, must-have pieces from the Sophie Grace brand.
10% of the sales further supported Momentum’s mission to empower female entrepreneurs.
Overall, the charity event was a testament to the power of community support and the importance of uplifting women entrepreneurs.
